What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting hair-thin needles into specific acupuncture points. Practiced for over 2500 years in China, acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which views health as a constantly flow of energy. Acupuncture helps to regulate imbalances in this natural flow of energy, which result in disease.

How Does it Work?

The classical Chinese explanation is that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to nourish the tissues, structures and organs. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up the flow in one part of the body and restricts it in others. Any obstruction and blockages or deficiencies of energy would eventually lead to disease.

The acupuncture needles can unblock the obstruction at the dams, and re-establish the regular flow through the meridians. Acupuncture treatment can therefore help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in digestion, absorption, energy production activities and the circulation of energy through the meridians.

How Acupuncture Feels

Acupuncture is painless and safe. Acupuncture utilizes ultra-fine needles, comparable to the thickness of a strand of hair, ensuring a painless experience. Each needle is meticulously sterilized and promptly discarded after use, guaranteeing hygiene and safety. Under the expertise of a skilled acupuncturist, needle insertion typically incurs minimal to no discomfort. In rare instances, patients may experience slight cramping or a mild electric sensation, which swiftly subsides.

Benefit

Acupuncture is dedicated to addressing the individual rather than merely the ailment. Practitioners approach patients holistically, identifying imbalances within the body that may underlie illnesses and subsequently treating them. By doing so, acupuncture harnesses the body's innate capacity for self-healing to alleviate and enhance various conditions. Moreover, acupuncture functions as a comprehensive framework for preventive healthcare and overall well-being maintenance. As a result, numerous conditions can be effectively managed and treated through acupuncture.

Types of Treatment

A typical treatment may include needles, moxibustion (a warming technique), acupressure or electro-acupuncture.

Deep Tissue Treatments For Chronic Pain

For individuals experiencing muscle or joint problems, prolonged strain on soft tissues like muscles, tendons, and ligaments can lead to the formation of fibrosis, or scar tissue. This fibrosis may entrap nerves, resulting in discomfort and restricted movement. The longer the problem persists, the deeper the scar tissue invades. Combining deep tissue therapy with acupuncture can effectively address these issues. Deep tissue therapy targets strained tissue, breaks down scar tissue, and alleviates tightness. By promoting circulation, this therapy supports the natural repair processes of the body. Once pressure on the nerve is relieved, pain diminishes as well. Early intervention is key. Seeking treatment at the onset of symptoms is advisable, as prevention is always preferable to extensive cure.

Treatment numbers

This really depends on the specific case. As a general rule, acute problems usually response more quickly, while chronic problems can take a lot longer (often 2-3 months).
